Doing the Gulf coast again this winter with our new travel partners!
This is snowbird trip #4! We hit some of our favorite places that we found in 2021-22, but also added in some different locations. We were able to boondock (dry camp) more on this trip since our new camper is all set up for solar energy.
Our third snowbird trip was along the same route we did in 2020-21, but with some different locations and campgrounds. That trip was at the height of COVID so a lot of things were closed down and I was still working during the first three months. It was fun to see what we missed!
189 days, 24 campgrounds (2 of those were just sleep-overs), 5,557 road miles, a lot of desert trails, red sand, red rock, burrows, many great new friends and visits from old friends. Another awesome adventure in the books!
197 days, 19 campgrounds (plus 1 Walmart parking lot), 5,372 road miles, awesome scenery, and some of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet. This Road to Retirement was truly memorable!
We aren't ready to settle in one place for the winter yet. There's so much to see across this country! We can’t just stay in one place. We have our set-up and tear-down routine in place. We don’t like to drive more than 4 hours between campgrounds. Sometimes it’s only 2 hours. We have destinations in mind and then look for points of interest along the way to create our route. From that we can determine how long we want to stay in a particular area and then the campground selection begins. I use RV Trip Wizard and Google Maps. I also use multiple sources to get reviews on a campground before deciding where to stay. We’ll stay for 3 days or maybe a month, but generally it’s about 2 weeks. We can pretty much see everything we want to see over 2 weeks and then we’re ready to move on. We always look forward to our next stop to see what we’ll find!
