Three Oaks and a Pine RV Park - New Orleans, LA

January 17 - January 24

I simply cannot recommend this campground to anyone. I would give it 3 stars but only because the camp host was nice and the hookups were good. It was also, thankfully, gated and there was barbed wire running across the top of the fence surrounding the campground. Every day we heard gunshots. Lots of them. And it didn’t matter if it was day or night. I wanted to think it was fireworks. At one point, Chuck said it was roofers but I don't think roofing happens in the dark. Street racing was constant in the evenings on the street right outside of the campground. There was a train yard right behind the campground fence and that was probably the best out of all of those things because it wasn't extremely noisy. Occasionally, there was some noise coming out of there but it was just the lull of a train and sometimes the train whistle, but not loud and irritating like the gunshots and the street racing.

Chuck went out to dump the tanks one day and found the sewer hose had holes in it. It had been chewed, we assumed by rats because when he went to dump the garbage, a rat ran out from there.

My daughter and her friend came to visit for a long weekend and I just felt terrible that we were in such a bad area of town. But we had to find a campground pretty much at the last minute and didn't want to stay way outside of town and thought, maybe it would be okay. There are three campgrounds right in a row on that street, Chef Menteur highway. Uber drivers told us the police don't even want to come to that area. Whereas it's only a 15 minute ride to the French Quarter, it's still not worth it. Pay extra money and stay someplace else.

It sits on a divided highway so depending on which way you’re traveling, you have to make a u-turn.  When it was time to leave, we had to drive two miles down the road to a grocery store parking lot so that we could turn around and go back the other way.

We moved to New Orleans RV Park and Marina, which some reviews said was a bad area. But believe me, it was like paradise compared to Three Oaks and a Pine. I'm usually pretty accepting of small campgrounds, but this just wasn't acceptable. It was probably the worst campground we have ever stayed in.
