alamo lake state park

We arrived at this state park in the middle of an AZ desert to find a huge lake, no cell service, no TV channels, and it’s 30 miles to the nearest town. But there are wild burros here – and I mean lots of them!! They look so fluffy, I wish I could pet one. And the babies (burritos) are so cute. They almost seem to stop and pose for a picture. There are a lot of ATV’s here and trail access right in the park. We found another RV park down the road with a small bar & grill, The Oasis. So at least we don’t have to cook everynight.

Our first day here was Windy Wednesday. 40 mph gusts, so we didn’t get out to do anything. Started going through our DVD collection. We also took a drive to see where, or if we could find service. The campground is very spread out. We are in Camp C with full hookups. About 3 miles away is Camp E and there is service there, but no hookups. Since we’ve already been boondocking for a couple of weeks, we decided to stay with the hookups and drive over for service once a day to check messages and emails.

The next day brought sunny skies and no wind, so we hit the trails. Lots of varying hills to climb and plenty of burros to see. Now that we have things scoped out, we’ll head more into the mountains on the next ride.

Something we didn’t expect for AZ was the cold mornings. Often in the 30’s. A little to cold to fish or ride until about 11AM.
